The Best Birth Control In The World Is For Men
 by Jon Clinkenbeard

If I were going to describe the perfect contraceptive, it would go something like this: no babies, no latex, no daily pill to remember, no hormones to interfere with mood or sex drive, no negative health effects whatsoever, and 100 percent effectiveness. The funny thing is, something like that currently exists.

The procedure called RISUG in India (reversible inhibition of sperm under guidance) takes about 15 minutes with a doctor, is effective after about three days, and lasts for 10 or more years…

Oh, and when you do decide you want those babies, it only takes one other injection of water and baking soda to flush out the gel, and within two to three months, you’ve got all your healthy sperm again.

The trouble is, most people don’t even know this exists. And if men only need one super-cheap shot every 10 years or more, that’s not something that gets big pharmaceutical companies all fired up, because they’ll make zero money on it (even if it might have the side benefit of, you know, destroying HIV).

Akon is helping 600 million people in Africa get electricity.

A year ago, Sengalese-American singer launched Akon Lighting Africa, an initiative designed to bring electricity to millions of Africans using solar energy. Thus far, they’ve installed solar street lamps and domestic solar panels in over a million households in 14 African countries. Now they’re setting up a new initiative to make Africa’s future even brighter.

My rant against Cameron Crowe’s Whitewashed Aloha.

Aloha sounds like a trainwreck. I swear there’s more films made in Hawaii about white people than here are about local people.

This is exactly what I think every time I see that garbage trailer!! I mean wow look at all these white people! So great it’s called Aloha yet not one of the leads is Asian/Pacific Islander/a Hawaiian local! Why are romcoms so white I mean it doesn’t even look funny or romantic either

an alle Maenner

Was die Sache schlimmer macht:
Punkt.

Women outnumber men in the nursing profession by more than 10 to 1. But men still earn more, a new study finds.

Even after controlling for age, race, marital status and children in the home, males in nursing outearned females by nearly $7,700 per year in outpatient settings and nearly $3,900 in hospitals.

Even In Nursing, Men Earn More Than Women

the wage gap is not because some professions are not as highly-paid as others. the wage gap exists because women are valued less than men. no matter what job, in any sector, if you are a woman you will be paid less. it’s about being female, not the job you do as a female.

Feminist Elizabethan | Gender Script is Flipped by Cosmo UK in Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo Interview

Anyone who pays any attention to celebrity interviews will have noticed that women are almost always asked only stupid, boring and sexist questions and this act of sexism was brought to the forefront in a recent interview by Cosmo UK.

Cosmo UK conducted an interview with Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo several days ago about their upcoming movie Avengers: Age of Ultron. Their interviewer decided to flip the gender script and asked Ruffalo all of the boring questions like, “What will you be wearing to the premiere,” and “Did you go on a diet,” and asked Johansson whether she did all of her own stunts and what she liked about playing Black Widow.

While it was very obvious that the questions that were asked of Ruffalo were stupid (and the stupidity of the questions were only amplified by the fact that a man was being asked these questions), what I found to be most powerful about the interview was that Johansson finally had a chance to speak her mind and answer interesting and relevant questions.

It wasn’t until I heard Johansson speaking about her character in this interview that I realized that I had never heard her speak about an interesting topic and this just served to remind me of all of the times that the world has missed out on hearing interesting opinions from actresses and how little girls have missed out on being (potentially) inspired by an actress.

Interviewers just really need to step up their game because their insistence on asking the same old uninspired sexist questions over and over isn’t doing anyone a favor. All it is accomplishing is boring viewers and interviewees, reinforcing sexism, depriving successful women an opportunity to express themselves and making themselves sound stupid. Just come on. We can do better.

Knowing that trans women of color started the movement in the united states and were literally immediately erased and excluded from what they started is the most deeply jading knowledge.

It is the original sin of the so-called queer community and it damns it from the cradle.

no white gay boy will ever reblog this, watch:

This is a jar full of major characters

Actually it is a jar full of chocolate covered raisins on top of a dirty TV tray. But pretend the raisins are interesting and well rounded fictional characters with significant roles in their stories.

We’re sharing these raisins at a party for Western Storytelling, so we get out two bowls.

Then we start filling the bowls. And at first we only fill the one on the left.

This doesn’t last forever though. Eventually we do start putting raisins in the bowl on the right. But for every raisin we put in the bowl on the right, we just keep adding to the bowl on the left.

And the thing about these bowls is, they don’t ever reset. We don’t get to empty them and start over. While we might lose some raisins to lost records or the stories becoming unpopular, but we never get to just restart. So even when we start putting raisins in the bowl on the right, we’re still way behind from the bowl on the left.

And time goes on and the bowl on the left gets raisins much faster than the bowl on the right.

Until these are the bowls.

Now you get to move and distribute more raisins. You can add raisins or take away raisins entirely, or you can move them from one bowl to the other.

This is the bowl on the left. I might have changed the number of raisins from one picture to the next. Can you tell me, did I add or remove raisins? How many? Did I leave the number the same?

You can’t tell for certain, can you? Adding or removing a raisin over here doesn’t seem to make much of a change to this bowl.

This is the bowl on the right. I might have changed the number of raisins from one picture to the next. Can you tell me, did I add or remove raisins? How many? Did I leave the number the same?

When there are so few raisins to start, any change made is really easy to spot, and makes a really significant difference.

This is why it is bad, even despicable, to take a character who was originally a character of color and make them white. But why it can be positive to take a character who was originally white and make them a character of color.

The white characters bowl is already so full that any change in number is almost meaningless (and is bound to be undone in mere minutes anyway, with the amount of new story creation going on), while the characters of color bowl changes hugely with each addition or subtraction, and any subtraction is a major loss.

This is also something to take in consideration when creating new characters. When you create a white character you have already, by the context of the larger culture, created a character with at least one feature that is not going to make a difference to the narratives at large. But every time you create a new character of color, you are changing something in our world.

I mean, imagine your party guests arrive

Oh my god they are adorable!

And they see their bowls

But before you hand them out you look right into the little black girls’s eyes and take two of her seven raisins and put them in the little white girl’s bowl.

I think she’d be totally justified in crying or leaving and yelling at you. Because how could you do that to a little girl? You were already giving the white girl so much more, and her so little, why would you do that? How could you justify yourself?

But on the other hand if you took two raisins from the white girl’s bowl and moved them over to the black girl’s bowl and the white girl looked at her bowl still full to the brim and decided your moving those raisins was unfair and she stomped and cried and yelled, well then she is a spoiled and entitled brat.

And if you are adding new raisins, it seems more important to add them to the bowl on the right. I mean, even if we added the both bowls at the same speed from now on (and we don’t) it would still take a long time before the numbers got big enough to make the difference we’ve already established insignificant.

And that’s the difference between whitewashing POC characters and making previously white characters POC. And that’s why every time a character’s race is ambiguous and we make them white, we’ve lost an opportunity.

*goes off to eat her chocolate covered raisins, which are no longer metaphors just snacks*

Finally, a doll that accurately represents women of color

When Angelica Sweeting’s daughter Sophia said she wanted “‘yellow hair’ and white skin like her dolls had so that she could be pretty,” Sweeting sought a doll that looked a lot more like her daughter. When she only found dolls that were essentially a “spray-painted” version of a doll with white features, Sweeting decided to make her own. She set the Kickstarter goal at $25,000 — but was blown away by what happened next.

Frida Kahlo disliked white capitalism intensely, so I would recommend not buying images of her on socks or whatever from big box stores especially if you’re white.

What I would recommend instead is make your own art and design inspired by her. She taught underprivileged teenagers art in the years leading up to her death. Her class was multicultural due to Mexico accepting refugees from WW2 including Jewish people(she herself was half German Jewish). She was very pro DIY and I think would’ve been flattered by fan art that’s not sold for money.
